take talent to listen to it as it does to sing it?
Opera requires an educated ear. However, anyone can have an educated ear.
First of all, give up on the concept of LISTENING to opera. Opera was meant to be seen. If you have a more sophisticated, experienced taste, so that you can picture what is going on from the music, then you can just listen.
Check your local PBS station and see what's going to be on. Start with comedies if you can. Read the Libretto, the story of the opera. You can probably look it up online. Understand who the characters are and what they are doing. Remember that this stuff was written hundreds of years ago, and the people then had certain cultural knowledge that you don't. (Kids today don't get Yellow Submarine either, so this isn't about opera.)
Your library might rent operas on tape or DVD. I really recommend something like La Cenerentola, or Cinderella. You already know the story (except it involves bracelets, as performers would never show their ankles on stage back then, which is what I mean by cultural). You will find it easier to relate to. Then try others. Don Pasquale is good. Madame Butterfly is beautiful. Carmen is fabulous.
Try it. What can it hurt?

I'm desperate to find a DVD or Video (would prefer DVD) that has these 2 on. They are probably the best 2 cartoons ever made !!
Not worried if it has been deleted, or hard to find. Also any suggestions on websites I might find them on would also be welcome. If not I'll trawl round the local second hand shops.
All information would be gratefully received.
Looney Tunes Golden Collections (DVD)'s probably have them. These are high quality remasterings of the cartoons. I haven't been able to locate the lists for couple of them. I think I might also have a VHS tape that has both of them, I will keep looking this weekend. Don't close out the question untill then.
I am pretty sure I have both of them somewhere, will try to figure out where.

Sorry, I have looked.
Still have not found the stupid things.
I have a number of Warner Brothers VHS tapes that were made in the early 90's. Still trying to locate them.
Contact me at diogenese19348@yahoo.com If I can figure out where they are, and what tape they are on, I will let you know.
Sorry for the late response.
I know I have them both somewhere.

Does anyone else remeber this classic short? It is about 10-15 minutes in total length (I know they still show parts of it ... but I haven't seen the WHOLE thing in a long time)
It's GREAT! Elmer Fudd singing "Kill the Rabbit" which he is going to do with his "Spear and Magic Helmet"
Bugs dressed as "Brunhilda" on the back of the giant white horse singing about how she knows she's lovely, but can't help it.
I'd LOVE to give this to a friend for a birthday present ... any CLUE where I can find it? It's never listed on those compilations ... Help?
"What's Opera, Doc?" is available on the Looney Tunes Golden Collection Vol. 2 and also the Looney Tunes- Spotlight Collection- Vol. 2 (This one doesn't have as many cartoons as the Golden Collection). Both are DVDs.
