Last week it was partly sunny but today it's partly cloudy. It looks the same to me!
Since the beginning of the last century, people from all nations have collaborated to gather meteorological information. Not only countries but also vessels on all the oceans were reporting their observations by radio-telegraphy. It was then important to have an international standard way to report the cloud coverage. Charts were, and still are drawn as a circle on the point of observation with a wind vector and barbs. The circle is then divided in four quarters showing a clear sky, one quart, one half, three quarts or full overcasted sky.
Later, when aviation came, a standard way to tell the weather became needed. The terminology is then: CLR (clear) SCT (scattered) BKN (broken) and OVC (overcasted).
Partly sunny is the same as Broken and,
Partly cloudy is the same as Scattered.
you know how on the weather channel, they say mostly cloudy or partly sunny, or vice versa, wtf is the difference?
has anyone ever thought of this before?
It's a matter of how much of the sky is covered by clouds. From sunniest to cloudiest it goes like this:
Sunny (or clear)
Mostly Sunny
Partly cloudy
Mostly Cloudy
Cloudy
I live in Miami,fl & tomorrows gona be 86 degrees partly cloudy & its slightly windy not major windy but gentle breezy. The clouds arent so thick & cover the sun for like a minute then the sun beams again & so forth. Would I be able to tan good & how long should I tan each side? Thanx!
umm, if its slighlty cloudy you can get a slight tan if you tan each side for like an hour and a half, but probably not just dont put any sun screen but tanning oil
I need to make a 'partly cloudly' card for my weather chart using hiragana. Would ちょっと くもり be an acceptable phrase? My dictionary gives いくぶんか as the Japanese for 'partly', but I don't know the correct way to team this with 'cloudy'. Please no translations from babelfish etc. They use kanji, which I can't read.
ありがとう
曇り勝ち (くもりがち) = mostly cloudy
薄曇り (うすぐもり) = slightly cloudy
雪曇り (ゆきぐもり) = cloudy sky looking like it will snow soon
This dictionary is a godsend, honestly: http://jisho.org/words/?eng=cloudy&j ap=&dict=edict
I have to do a weather report and besides saying "Hace buen tiempo", how do i say that the weather is kind of partly cloudy, not hot and not cold?
Does saying "Hace sol con solo hay pocas nubes." work for saying "It's sunny with only a few clouds?"
Gracias
just kidding.. in the sentence above take the "hay" out from "con solo hay pocas nubas"
"It's sunny with only a few clouds?"
Esta soleado con pocas nubes
or Esta soleado con solo pocas nubes
partly cloudy : Parcialmente nublado
not hot: No hace calor
not cold: No hace frio
