Anyway, I got Terminator 3 today. Do I need to watch the films in order or will I understand the plot if I watch the third film first?

I had heard somewhere that they planned on making a trilogy of Terminator films detailing the war against Skynet. Is this still happening?
Yes, that is the plan. But it depends on the success of the first one (Salvation) which cost 200 million to make. It did make 56 million the first weekend but it was expected to do a little better (it was beat out by Night At The Museum 2). They are hoping for a domestic gross of at least 200 million. HOWEVER, even if the movie only makes what it's predecessor made (T3 Rise Of The Machine made 150 million), internationally that movie still grossed well for a total of 433 million. That would still be a good enough of a success for them to continue the trilogy! The popularity of the brand name and Batman star Christian Bale should help this movie to have a good run. However, many of the critics disliked the story and the average user rating is lower than expected!

The last transformers wasn't amazing (it was too PG and not very serious), I don't expect the next one to be that great either. I only really watched it because of Shia Labeouf so I'm looking forward to Terminator, and Christian Bale never fails to impress.

The endless possibilities as far as storylines go... just gives me chills!
Transformers might be okay, but those are more all about special effects. There is nothing you can sink your teeth into like the Terminator franchise.

For example, the terminator crosses a point as the point reaches a sunset. Is that also the correct term on the sunrise side?
Terminator is the word for the boundary between day and night. Its the same word for both sunrise and sunset.
