So I'm writing a paper on Episode V: Empire Strikes Back, and I'm stuck on a question. I'm supposed to discuss the characters of Yoda and Obi-Wan-Kenobi and their influence on Luke. I remember in this episode, Luke was studying to be Jedi, but as far as mentorship goes I don't really remember. I know Yoda and Obi-Wan are important characters, but why are they crucial to the heart of the story? Any insights will be most appreciated. Yoda is the Jedi who tutors Luke. The Jedi ways are the art of using the mystical, magical Force to become a warrior and to save the galaxy. Obi-Wan Kenobi appears to Luke when Luke is near death on the ice planet of Hoth after being attacked by a monster. This is the only contact Luke has with Obi-Wan in Episode V. Yoda teaches Luke Jedi power. The significance of Obi-Wan and Yoda are that they were Jedi protectors, which is the legacy falling to Luke. Obi-Wan inadvertently led Darth Vader to evil and Vader is who Luke is required to confront. Yoda is an old man, but Yoda gives Luke the insight and power necessary to defeat the Empire and to save the galaxy. Luke goes to the cloud world of Bespin to confront Vader.
