I need help analyzing the overall historical accuracy of Ben-Hur of the films subject and setting such as historical events/historical periods and how they are portrayed in the film and are they accurately portrayed as well as what ancient places are portrayed, etc.
Ben-Hur is a 1959 epic film directed by William Wyler, and is the third film version of Lew Wallace's novel 1880 Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ. it premiered at Loew's State Theatre in New York City on November 18, 1959. the film went on to win a record of eleven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, a feat equaled only by Titanic and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.
for people who have seen it do you really think it is a classic? i don't that is for sure! also do u think this is unfair we watched the whole move in like 3 days and then the next day we had a test !!!!!!! AND I AM IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL!!!!!!! Also did u know that in the charriot race the first guy who fell off his horse was not supposed to and he actually died in real life
Wow i didnt know about the guy either but i do think is a classic. I think is amazing how they used such great and huge movies without any used of computers, also the quality of the stories is much better. Now if you are in elementary school well the test destroys the movie expirence, but its a great movie.

I have to find three scenes from a movie based on something before 600 ad and research the scenes to see if they actually happened during that time period or whether they were just made up. Would it be pretty easy to find three scenes from this movie and research them?
Ben hur is a great movie with lots of mistakes
The actors and stunt drivers use only two reins to control the four horses that pull each chariot in the race. However, charioteers in ancient Rome used separate harnesses with two reins controlling each horse. In a race such as the one depicted in the movie, where four horses draw the chariot (two-horse races were common, as well), a real charioteer from the era would be holding eight reins.
Quintus Arrius is fighting an enormous fleet of Macedonian pirates. However, Macedonia had been a Roman province since 148 BC and after the defeat of the Cilician pirates by Pompey in 67 BC the Mediterranean was free of pirates. The movie is set nearly 100 years later.
Before the chariot race, Sheik Ilderim pins a Star of David on Ben Hur's belt. The Star of David did not become a Jewish symbol until the Middle Ages.
There is a Holstein cow in the manger scene near the beginning of the movie. Holsteins were created through cross-breeding in Germany in the 19th century, so its appearance at Jesus' birth is impossible.and was unknown in the area until 1922.
Just before the chariot race, governor Pilate tells the audience that there are contestants from Carthage and Corinth taking part in the race. Carthage and Corinth were destroyed by Rome in 146 BC. The movie is set in the time of emperor Tiberius (14-37 AD).
Tire tracks from the camera truck are visible in the sand of the circus during the chariot race.
The section in the middle of the circus, the spina, is a known feature of circi, although its size may be exaggerated to aid filmmaking. The golden dolphin lap counter was a feature of the Circus Maximus in Rome.
Messala was hurt when his chariot collapsed during the race; he was trampled and run over.
