Seance on a Wet Afternoon

Answers

Seance on a Wet Afternoon was on TCM last night, how does it end?

I fell asleep right at the end.

During the seance in which the girls mother is present, Myra faints and when Billy rushes in to see how she is he leaves the girl's room unlocked. Later, during a row between the couple the girl appears on the staircase. Since she has now seen their faces and knows this isnt a hospital Myra tells Billy to kill the child. She wants this anyway since it will provide "Arthur" with a companion in the after-life. Billy is seen later carrying the child through the woods and leaving her lying on the ground.

After he returns, the police turn up. They request that Myra give another seance ostensibly to see if she can provide them with any clues as to where the child is. She agrees. During the seance though "Arthur" tells her that he waited for the girl in the forest but she wasnt there. "Not dead!" shouts Myra and becomes unhinged at this point. Her madness escalates and she gives away various details of what has happened with the police listening. When her madness subsides and she is left in tears nursing the imaginary baby Arthur, the police ask Billy where he hid the ransom money. It is now clear that they had already found the girl - alive -and the "seance" was just a ruse to get a confession. Billy's final words are "Is she alright? I left her somewhere where I knew the scouts would find her". End
