I wish to scare the bejesus out of the local villagers with a terrifying two hundred and fifty foot wicker man. Is this an adequate size or should I double it. It would cost a lot more to double it in size. But then again you can't put a price on the look of absolute terror on a guttersnipes face when confronted with the prospect of medieval human sacrifice can you.
Rotty, I am thrilled to learn that you are reviving this wonderful Olde English tradition in the grounds of Rotter Manor!
This is just the kind of spectacle the country needs in troubled times. Why, when all around are befuddled and confused as to their proper place in society - with riff raff even daring to question the rights of the ruling classes to have swimming pools, jacuzzis, and Jacobean style extensions (in which to house their idiot offspring) all built at the tax payer's expense - I feel your wicker man will be a welcome and terrifying gesture that will put all of us back in our correct societal positions.
I took it upon myself earlier to phone the actor Edward Woodward, to see if he'd care to come along and officiate. However he made little sense at all, gibbering some rot along the lines of "ooh-er, not bloody likely - I know how it ends!" and so he can be scratched from the guest list. Quite mad, these thespians!
Anyway, I'm sure you already have such matters in hand, AR. It only remains then for me to root out my Merry English Maiden costume - complete with daisy-chain coronet to wear on my noddle and a sizable flaming brand with which to ignite your enormous effigy (the size of which, incidentally, sounds just about perfect to me).
Will you be getting the may pole up too, Rotty? I do hope so!

I just re-watched this film (after many years and much younger age) and was struck by the music as some of it sounded like original music done in a folk style. While other songs could have been old folk ballads such as the Pub scene where the patrons start singing a melody about "Landlords daughter".
Others where old nursery rhymes such as Baa, Baa, Black Sheep
Yes, those are folk songs though a couple vary from their original forms. This is a wonderful soundtrack that I'd love to have. Some folk songs are VERY bawdy!
Sadly, I've never found a version of the film that includes both nights Howie stays at the inn. There is a second song for when a man from the village brings his son to be~ahem~deflowered by the "landlord's daughter". Back in the Eighties, USA Channel ran that scene instead of the one with nudity, which usually is included. Why they don't have both scenes I'll never understand.
Here's "The Landlord's Daughter" on YouTube:

Strangely, these are the only songs listed at IMDb:
Corn Rigs
Written by Paul Giovanni
Sung by Paul Giovanni
NOTE: It may be claiming that he wrote this, but I think he adapted it instead from this: Corn Rigs Ane Bonny.
Gently Johnny (aka Gently, Johnny, My Jingalo)
Sung by Paul Giovanni
I have been a "song catcher" since childhood. I was able to expand my collection when I started attending reenactment events. I play the bowed psaltery and am always looking for folk and ethnic music.
WOW! I just found out that they might have the music put together in an album! You can read about it here, where they also list all of the songs used in the 1973 film:

Maybe I can track down a copy after all! So, if you hadn't asked this question, I might not have thought to look for a soundtrack. Thanks! // If you are interested, I tracked it to Amazon for a variety of prices:

The movie sucked but why was it dedicated to johnny ramone?
Because he was close friends with Nicholas Cage who starred and produced the movie.
From imdb.com
The film is dedicated to late musician Johnny Ramone, who introduced Nicolas Cage to Robin Hardy's original film.
