I have to write a essay on 3 examples on why a free press is important to government and they have to come from the movie "All the Presidents Men" which dealt with Watergate. Can someone please give me just 3 examples?
If being "free" is the only aspect to be considered, it's actually NOT important.
In addition to being "free," as in able to gather information and publish facts without fear of government reprisals, there are two other indispensible aspects of the Press.
They must be "objective." If they are not objective, then it becomes a question of whether they are taking the side of government, or opposing them at every turn, or take the side of one faction or another. A "free" press is independent of the government, but it doesn't do any good if they are allied to some other faction.
They must be "intelligent." If they aren't smart enough to ask the right questions, then the "free" press can be manipulated by people who know how to answer what they are asked without revealing anything.
A "free" press is meaningless if they are biased or ignorant, and I think our media today is both of those.
So, that's my answer. A free press is NOT important. A Free, unbiased and intelligent press IS.

im reading the book All the presidents men and im looking for chapter summaries and i cant find them anywhere.

I kept getting an error when trying http://www.sparknotes.com/ site, but they have a lot of book chapter summaries. (Because of the error, I wasn't able to check if they have All The President's Men.)

Today I pretended I was the President. I listed all of the issues he faces today,or at least as many as I could think of. Actually there were hundreds! So I tried to figure out how I could handle all of these intensely diabolical issues, and even thinking about two or three a day didn't give me much time to come to some sort of conclusions or decisions. Especially since I'm taking my behind all over the RED states trying to drum up support for the Repubs. So I guess its pretty much true that 'all of the presidents men' (or women) make the really tough decisions. So....what does the president do, really? Someone writes his speeches; he memorizes reporters' answers, he attends functions and dinners; and he has to sleep sometimes! So. What does this man do. What does he Really do all day?
