"white heat beneath the combined fires of despair and jealousy"
does white heat mean...contolled heat? calm heat?...
i was thinking of using this to back up my literary analysis on "The lady, or the Tiger"...I am backing up that the LADY came out of the door...would this work?
When certain substances get very hot - usually metals - they start giving off visible light. Hot iron is red hot - it glows red. Get it a little hotter and it glows orange, more and it glows yellow - at this point it's about to melt. When something gets really really really hot - like, hot molten steel - it gives off all wavelengths of visible light and appears white. That's white hot.
In the quoted passage, white heat is a metaphor for intense energy or emotion. Because molten gold is heated to white hot to burn off impurities, it can also be a metaphor for spiritual purification.
I have white areas on my dining room table where semi hot bowls were set directly on the table. How do I get rid of them?
My gramma always had me rub mayonnaise on the spots.
As heat caused it in the first place, heat will take it out.
Place a tea towel over the stain on the table, then press with a steam iron on low heat for a couple of seconds. Check and repeat until the heat mark is gone forever.
Works even on your best polished cherrywood table...OK, it takes a deep breath and a bit of guts to do it, but don't be scared, just go for it.
Thanks for your comment. Sorry...but I tried absolutely everything including the old mayonnaise and ashes trick and nothing worked. Only heat can make a difference, especially over a polished table.
Cor, not sure if I would be brave enough to try the methylated spirit trick..the heat from the steam iron works just as well and is safe!
Never heard this let alone tried it, but, game for anything as usual I will let my sister try it first! lol
Someone set a paper plate on my dining table with hot food in it. When the plate was removed a white cloudy spot on the varnish was under it.
I remove these regularly (today, for example). In and out in 10 minutes.
i was cleaning my iron and the steam left a huge white spot on my kitchen counter. it is a formica countertop. this house was just built not even a month ago. pleeeeeease help
There's no way to fix this to my knowledge. Go to Lowes or Home Depot, & talk to the people there.
