An undocumented immigrant from Guatemala was sentenced Monday to 35 years in prison for the murder of a man nearly two years ago.
Adam Andrew Leyva, 25, pleaded no contest to second-degree murder and robbery with a deadly weapon in connection with the May 1, 2007 death of Roberto Ramirez, 58, of Ocala.
Ramirez was found dead on wooded Gainesville Regional Airport property. An autopsy showed Ramirez died of a blow to the back of his head, likely with a metal pole. Leyva, who also went by the name Diego Juan Mateo, was found a few days later in northern Georgia.
Prosecutors said robbery was a possible motive because Leyva apparently knew that Ramirez had $250 in his wallet that he intended to use to rent a truck.
Leyva, who was in the United States illegally at the time of Ramirez’s murder, was sentenced to 35 years in prison and is expected to be deported to Guatemala as soon as he is released from state prison.http://www.ocala.com/article/20090406/AR TICLES/904069953/1001/news01?Title=Undoc umented-alien-gets-35-years-for-killing- Ocala-man
A man riding a motorcycle was killed Sunday afternoon in a wreck in downtown Burlington.
The wreck happened at the intersection of South Church Street and Davis streets.
William Bryan Barber, 43, died at the scene of the wreck, police said. An unidentified juvenile passenger riding on the motorcycle was hurt and was taken by helicopter to Duke University Medical Center. The juvenile passenger was reported to be in stable condition.
Police said the accident happened about 3 p.m.
Police accounts say the wreck happened when Lidia Monica Lopez, 41, was traveling east on South Church Street and the 1995 Dodge pickup truck she was driving collided with a 1990 Dodge driven by Pamela Coble and with the motorcycle driven by Barber.
Lopez was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, driving with no operator's license and running a red light. She was released from Alamance Regional Medical Center after being treated there.
Coble, 60, was driven to Alamance Regional Medical Center and treated at the hospital.
Assistant Chief Greg Seel said he had limited information on the wreck. He wasn't sure where Barber lived.
Bond for Lopez was set at $10,000, according to records at the county jail. Jail records also indicate she can't be released if she posts bond because she is in the country illegally.http://www.ocala.com/article/20090406/AR TICLES/904069953/1001/news01?Title=Undoc umented-alien-gets-35-years-for-killing- Ocala-man
U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez Supporters of granting amnesty to illegal aliens saw their fortunes dissolve in 2007 as Congress failed to pass it, but an Illinois congressman tried reviving the issue during a local appearance Saturday as part of his national campaign for legalization.
Speaking at the Iglesia International chapel on Hunting Park Avenue, U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., urged congregants to support granting amnesty to all illegal aliens.
“We’ll go from church to church, city to city,” he said. “I know one thing: I’ll keep working on it until we get it right.”
Mr. Gutierrez already had visited 13 other cities across the nation seeking to foment support before arriving in the city.
Hater Police WHAT DO YOU THINK urged congregants to support granting amnesty to all illegal aliens NOT JUST SOME BUT ALL
What's the difference between one criminal and another? None according to Gutierrez as long as the criminal is Hispanic! He would include the 87,500 illegal alien child molesters in his "reward criminals" scheme!
NOTE: Amnesty would be if thy returned to their country. He wants rewards for criminals! This is like;
Giving more ammo to a murderer
OR
Giving a pharmacist license to a drug dealer
OR
giving the victim of a child molester to the child molester!
Report, Deport, Repeat!
A pickpocket unwittingly lifts a message destined for enemy agents and becomes a target for a Communist spy ring.
Tonight walking the dog on Ocean Drive, South Beach up the street came a BMW with headlights that belonged on a 747. Instant pain just glancing at them, even from more than a block away.
WHY aren't these things illegal? No baloney about "safety", please. Blinding drivers in front from behind in cities and on the freeways, they're the most dangerous thing going.
They're just the newest version of pipes or Kw car stereos for those that set out to be obnoxious -- but with the added aspect of causing real public danger. And look at the drivers who use them. Rednecks in super-pickups, Gangstas or street racers in pimped out sedans, entitled "businessmen" in blacked-out luxury imports like the BMW cruising tonight.
Seems to me the Giuliani approach to subway turnstile jumpers would be just the thing. I'm sure that pulling these guys over would reduce crime in more ways than just stopping the immediate insult to the public.
I probably need not bother answering because you already have several good answers, at least two of which mention taking action - contacting congress, but AMEN Brother!
I might say, as an aside to QT - <I> said that? I thought it was Deep Throat! I thought <I> was much too mellow to be that guy.
Clearly, in any case, I'm not looking the other way because I'm getting paid, but rather because I want to see again later on the drive home.
There's a 1980s T-Bird. In the back seat, in order from left to right, there's my sister, 23, my mom, 52, and my niece, 3. In the front, there's my dad, 40 something, and me, 14. We were in the east side of Sulphur, Oklahoma, on a road that runs north and south. The green pickup flew by going east on the road that intersects the one we were on. We tore after it, going 40 MPH(all of this is in MPH) on a 25 road. We turned left twice, and headed for Broadway, the main street in our town. The car went the same speed, 40, now in a 30. The pickup swerved between a large group of cars, and we got stuck behind them. We eventually got through, and we were now in a 35. The car's engine roared, and soon we were at 60 in a 35, then 70 or more, maybe up to 80. We swerved around the few cars like they were parked. We were at the west side of town now, and at the part where Broadway turns into a highway. We flew up to the pickup, got beside it, and finally the driver saw us. We slowed, and he swerved down into a ditch, then went up to the road. "Roll down your window, Jake," Dad said to me, and so I did. The pickup's driver walked over to us, and Dad asked the important question we could've got killed over: "Do you have that part for my car?"
This actually happened, I was laughing hard (inside, couldn't let it out unless I wanted yelled at by Mom) the whole way because Dad does this kind of stuff all the time, and Mom hates it. Mom's the kind of person who would go 30 on the interstate. She freaks out when Dad does this stuff, and now, an hour later, she's still upset about the baby being involoved in this "insane" thing. I thought it was pretty fun, though. What would you do if you were in the car?
I would have waited until we stopped and then beat the hell out of your father for driving like an a** with a baby in the car.
This just happened to me today(Sunday).

I don't think you can call me a "young boy." I'm 14, about to get my motorcycle license!

RIVERSIDE, New Jersey (Reuters) - Opponents of a local law cracking down on illegal immigrants clashed on Sunday with residents chanting "go home" as both sides proclaimed their loyalty to the United States.
An estimated 300 to 400 people gathered outside the town hall to protest a recently passed ordinance that bans hiring or renting to illegal immigrants, who are accused of overburdening local services such as schools and hospitals without paying taxes.
The protesters, representing the largely Brazilian immigrant community of Riverside, were heckled by about 500 counter-demonstrators kept at bay by police on the other side of the town's main intersection.
As immigration supporters accused the town's council of racism, opponents chanted "USA, USA" and waved placards saying "Scram" and "Stop Illegal Immigration." A passing pickup truck drew loud cheers by flying a Confederate flag with the motto "The South Will Rise Again."
Riverside, with a population of about 8,000, is the latest community to pass local regulations on illegal immigration in the absence of a federal law that would address the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants currently in the United States.
U.S. lawmakers are trying to reconcile a bill in the House of Representatives that emphasizes stronger border controls and stiff penalties, with that of the Senate, which seeks a path to citizenship for eligible immigrants.
A similar law was adopted by the Pennsylvania town of Hazleton in July. Both Hazleton and Riverside, about 20 miles from Philadelphia, are being sued on the grounds that only the federal government has legal authority over immigration.
Rev. Miguel Rivera, president of the National Coalition of Latino Clergy and Christian Leaders, called the Riverside law "racist." He criticized Mayor Charles Hilton by saying his initiative in passing the law was equivalent to the Confederate flag being flown by the counter-demonstrators.
Across the street, several people held placards with pictures of Rivera, accusing him of racism and saying "Take Your Trash Elsewhere."
Opponents' chants of "go home" were countered by calls of "we are home" from immigrants' supporters. Demonstrators on both sides waved the U.S. flag and claimed their allegiance to the United States.
Larry Mourey, 52, who said he had lived all his life in Riverside, denied there was any racism in his support for the town's ordinance. He said he had no problem with immigrants as long as they were legal but objected to paying taxes to support illegal ones.
Lindsey Sickler, 19, said she supported the ordinance because the illegal immigrants were using local services without paying taxes, and their children are driving down school test scores because they can't speak English.
"If we were in their country and doing the same thing, they would be trying to get us out," she said.
Thank you for this great post! I did not know about this incident. I am very happy to see that SOMEONE is DOING something about this travesty of justice and unfairness in our country today. It is so wrong to allow illegal people into our country and then to even talk about making their actions legal through amnesty.
Wake up America! We are being sold out by our Fed. government who is catering to large corporations by allowing illegals here for cheap labor and more than likely, the Democratic Party who believes to make citizens of these illegals will give them the votes they need to come back into power. Problem is that once the illegals are made legal, they will start voting for social programs for themselves and it will become LEGAL for them to bilk the system and displace Americans who are here by birth or legal immigration and have paid taxes to have those social services, jobs, English speaking schools, health care and non criminality in their communities ...rather than having their homeland turned into a second, deteriorating country (like Mexico). Good for the agressive, law abiding folks of Riverside. No more Illegal Immigration! Illegals, leave our country. This is not your home and never will be unless you come here legally.
