What's it like in Key Largo? Me and my fiance booked our honeymoon there without really researching it so now were kinda scared we might have made a mistake. We just thought, the keys...white sand beautiful water lots of stuff to do and see. So anyone whos been there or lived there, whats it really like? What are the beaches and water like? What is there to do? Is it a good place for a honeymoon?
Sorry, it's a tourist trap. If you like cats, you will enjoy Ernest Hemingway's house tour in Key West. Otherwise, there is a T-shirt stand every 15 feet and Jet-Ski rental every 30 feet. Key Largo doesn't have a whole lot to offer besdies fishing and water sports. If you want something to do, head to Homestead south of Miami. It has a little action, and not nuts like Miami is.

What is the closest major airport to Key Largo, Florida?
And how do I get from there to Key Largo?
Do I need to rent a car or do they have some kind of shuttle service for tourists?
I'm planning to go there in September to do some diving. And I don't like to drive.
Key Largo is in the Upper Keys so the closest airport to it is Miami International Airport. Key Largo is about 1 hour 20 minutes (60 miles) away from Miami Airport.
As for transportation since you don't like driving then you can take the Keys Shuttle down to Key Largo for a price of $60 bucks oneway.

I'd to know from you geographers if Key Largo and Key West are considered to be Carribbean islands, or islands in the Gulf of Mexico (doesn't really look that way to me) or the Atlantic Ocean?
It is difficult to answer these question definitively, since there is no absolute authority. Strict geographers would not consider Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, or the the Florida Keys to be Carribbean islands.
I am planning a trip to Key Largo. I am a scuba diver and this may be a once in a lifetime trip. I am not a tech diver but I am open water and nitrox and have deep diver certifications. What dives do u think are the best?
I am looking for a hotel dive package combo any idea's?
You must do some wreck diving and you will find USCG Duane and Bibb excellent dives but probably the best wreck dive would be the USS Speigel Grove, a massive wreck that cannot be explored on one dive.
For the best in reef diving you have to go to Molasses Reef.
Best to book a hotel and use one of the local diving centers of which there are plenty and all are a high standard. The site shown below has some hotels listed and a link to www.hotelscombined.com which will give you the best discounted rates on all the hotels in Key Largo - it has a great search engine for hotels anywhere in the world.
I'm in key largo, fl for a fews days and I need a cool place to drink and dance. Younger crowd.
Like the other person said....Key Largo is a bust for what your looking for. Most of the bars in that area are daytime , early evening places that cater to the after fishing, diving and snorkel crowd.
Key Largo is not that far from Homestead or Miami ... Key West is another 2-3 hour drive South. It's worth the trip though. ... If you go and since you will be drinking , do yourself a favor and get a room for the night. It's a tough , long ride back from Key West to key Largo ... one lane in each direction except for a few passing zones... Plus you will have headlights in your face the entire ride as there is no divider in the road.
I don't know if it helps or not but the Greyhound bus comes right down US1 heading to Key West.
Have fun and I do hope you manage to get to Key West.
