The Lord of the Rings The Two Towers

Answers

How is the title of the Lord of the Rings Two Towers significant or relate to events in the book?
The Fellowship

The title refers to the towers that were central to the book itself.
Orthanc, a bastion in Rohan of Saurons...though inhabited by Saruman it was Sauron he took his orders from....and Cirith Ungol....the tower that Frodo uses to gain access to Mordor in his quest to reach Mount Doom.
The two towers are where all the action in the book takes place. Isengard, once fair and bright, now blighted by Saurons evil and Cirith Ungol, once built as a watch tower to keep Saurons creatures in when they thought he was vanquished the first time, now turned evil and a guardian of his realm. These towers illustrate how powerful evil can become and the lengths one must go to to destroy it. Both towers were centers of good intent, both towers turned evil, both had to be overcome in order to end Sauron forever. It also illustrates another theme central to the books...that evil, in the end, cannot overcome. Both towers "fall"...Orthanc utterly fails, and Cirith Ungol falls to the will of two small hobbits in achieving a goal. Good triumphs over evil.
Tolkien himself gives the answer.... Orthanc and Cirith Ungol.

SAM!

Cause he's amazing

especially that quote at the end:

Frodo: I can't do this, Sam.
Sam: I know. It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.
Frodo: What are we holding onto, Sam?
Sam: That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo... and it's worth fighting for.
