I have watched sicko this week,I'm italian and I have to do a topic of this film(in english)
do you help me?what's the meaning of sicko?
"Sicko" is actually a derogatory term we use to describe someone who is mentally deranged, like a serial killer or a child molester.
In the case of this movie title, it is used tongue-in-cheek to describe all these sick people who can't get medical insurance or medical help, because it's too expensive here in America.
Movie By Michael Moore Moore shows us how France, England, Canada and yikes! Cuba actually help sick people instead of letting them wither and die ...
I have recently watched Sicko in Sweden. I wonder now, if I really can trust everything that is told in that movie.
You shouldn't trust anything that's said in any movie or documentary, you should get yourself informed with as many sources as possible and think critically.
MM's sicko has a point of view and is heavily subjective, but:
1) all documentaries do, at least this one doesn't hide it
2) the starting point, that the US healthcare system is dysfunctional and inefficient, is totally relevant and difficult for anyone to deny
3) MM tries to incite us to think, and he uses humour and provocation for that. You might not like the method, and you might disagree with his views, but it's not about trusting or not.
i need a print out of everything that is said in michael Moore's movie sicko. im doing a paper on socialized medicine and im looking for quotes. Even just a partial script would be great. I know it wasnt written out and that it is mostly interviews, so it may be that it doesnt even exist, but anything would be helpful.
also, if you know of any good sites that supports socialized medicine, or have information on insurance companies denying claims, those would also be helpful.
You can download a subtitle file at the following address:

If you can't read Chinese, just click the button in the center, which says "I agree to download." Then you will see some links coming out below. Click on the any one of them will start the download.
Unzip the file and open the .srt file using a text editor, like notepad.
I must do a project in my sociology class about how the movie sicko could relate to sociology... thanks
The old guy dresses up as a tranny and goes on a killing spree. How does this relate to sociology? Well he's stabbing people in his society...
I got a couple questions. For the movie sicko by michael moore
What did you learn about the healthcare system in the US as compared to that of other countries?
Did you find anything about the systems of other countries that worked well for them?
Is there anything that they are doing in other countries that you think could work for us?
Why or why not?
There is a deep fear installed in the US citizens about Socialism and about Communism.
As soon as either word is used about any reform it kills it dead due to that fear.
Capitalism works in business. It is silly to keep a failing company producing items no one wants to buy. Just to keep people in work.
Socialism works in education. No one will insist that education can not be given if it can not be afforded. Every one needs to be taught.
No political system is perfect, a blend of both is needed. Even in schools there has to be efficiency and a capitalist approach to funding and costs has to be used.
With business there has to be a social system to cover the workers welfare, wages and safety need to monitored. Otherwise mere workers become expendable.
The question with medicine is.
Should it be a profit making business or should it be a facility where there is treatment for all?
Few people go out of their way to be sick. If they do, that is a mental illness in it's self needing treatment.
I am actually English and yes our NHS system does work well. I have been to France and their system works well too. Neither are perfect of course, people are not perfect.
What I can tell you is that no matter how imperfect our health systems are. Not one citizen of any country with a health system would exchange it for a system akin to the American one.
I think what a lot of Americans forget is that every country had a system like theirs, it did not work well so a system like the British NHS was adopted instead. It works better and is fairer.
Think about it rationally. If national heathcare systems were not working well then these national systems would not have succeeded nor would they have been adopted by every other civilised country.
Do you know of any country who had a national system, who reverted back to a profit based system because it was better? It does not exist.00
