Bowling for Columbine
In the movie Bowling for Columbine, what issues and themes does the film present? Someone please help me it's for homework
I believe the issues of that film are:
- how access to guns caused the Columbine massacre
- how access to guns is causing increasing violence in the United States
- how does the gun crime statistics compare between the United States and other countries.
How good was Bowling for Columbine? I have yet seen the movie and I am interested in watching it, the Columbine school shootings took place during my senior year in high school.
It is a good movie with some good information. Of course, it is told from a certain point of view and can be a little passionate about it's mean to get information.
I enjoy Michael Moore and his movies...yes, he is inflammatory but sometimes that is what it take us apathetic Americans to look at something.
IMHO
my son has watch a movie in his high school in 9th grade its called bowling for columbine and i was not send home a permission slip, i want to know if i should contact the school or not
-how politically biased is this movie?
Hi! I am a high school English teacher and I have to tell you that I don't think I would personally use this film with freshmen. I teach both freshmen and juniors. I have to hope that your son's teacher has the best intentions and has an academic purpose behind showing the film. There is a bias in this film, but it is worthwhile to discuss and analyze in the context of questioning media in general.
I do use this film with my juniors as we study American literature and issues and this film fits in with my Fear in America unit where we study Puritans, The Crucible, McCarthyism, etc. We also study rhetoric, bias, and persuasive language, all of which fit in with this film. I send a permission slip home with a rationale for showing the film because it is rated R for violence, language, and adult themes. I provide an alternate assignment for parents who aren't comfortable with their son/daughter viewing this film.
I say all this (droning on and on I'm sure!) to give you a teacher's take on this movie. From a parent's perspective, I would recommend you call the teacher directly and ask him/her about it. I would be concerned about my children viewing this without the proper guidance.
Sorry this is so long....job hazard I suppose!
I have an exam on this documentary and was wondering if anyone knows the answers to these questions:
Why is it called Bowling for Columbine and what did Michael Moore misrepresent in the documentary?
Thanks!
I am not sure what Moore misrepresented but I know that he called the documentary 'Bowling for Columbine' because the two teenagers who did the shootings went bowling the morning of the incident. The documentary tries to explain what causes violent behavior in America and it sort of pokes fun that maybe bowling is one of the reasons.
