I just watched "The Godfather Part II" for the first time, and I'm confused about parts of the plot. How did Frank Pentangeli turn on Michael Corleone? Also, who was the person who tried to have Michael Corleone killed? I'm confused about whether it was Hyman Roth.
first of all Hyman Roth was the mastermind in trying to kill Michael Corleone.
As for Frank Pentangeli, (who I really liked) when he went to that bar, with Johnny Ola (I think) and the bad guys tried to strangle him, they say something like "Michael sends his regards" or something like that. That makes Frank think Michael tried to have him killed because of the whole Hyman Roth disagreement.(which he didn't). So when the FBI gets a hold of Frank, he basically "Squeals" on Michael. Big misunderstanding and too late when he finds out that's not what happened. Which leads to "his taking it all back" saying he was just saying what the FBI wanted to hear and then committing suicide after seeing his brother in the court room and talking with Tom Hagen. The story that Tom tells Frank about the Romans, basically lets him know that his family will be taken care of if he "dies". Since he can't get away from the FBI and he won't squeal on Michael anymore, that was his only way out.
I love the godfather movies, 1 and 2 are the best. 3 took me some time to like it, but now I consider it a good movie.
why did he go to court? he didnt have to. he's just making trouble for himself.
Michael did have to go to court. It was a Senate subcommittee hearing.
