What happened to Milk is good for your bones?
IMG_0020

I love milk and always grew up thinking drink as much milk as possible, it's good for your bones!

But recently i've heard people say that only drink whats in your cereal in the morning?

Is milk bad? I love milk and drink at least two cups a day (aside from morning cereal)

Thanks!

Actually, milk IS bad for your health. Dairy causes diabetes, and not to mention the amount of cholesterol. Our bodies produce our own cholesterol, so we don't need it in our diets (not to mention how bad it is). The "Milk is good for your bones" was invented by the dairy industry to sell their product... but actually, most of the calcium from milk isn't even absorbed into your body!! It's the CALCIUM in milk that supposedly gives you strong bones and teeth. SoyMilk is the one that's really good for your bones and health. It has more vitamins and minerals (yes, more calcium) and it DOES get absorbed into your body. Also, no cholesterol! If Silk SoyMilk paid as much as the dairy industry does to promote the product, it would have replaced milk a long long time ago! So yes, milk IS bad for your health (It's been proven by studies NOT paid for by the dairy industry). Go for SoyMilk, It is a MUCH healthier alternative! I'm sure a glass of milk once and a while isn't bad for you, but if you have it in excess (like they want you to, they love your money.) it can actually do harm to your body.

It can raise cancer risks, and is one leading cause of diabetes. It's filled with growth hormones and other things you wouldn't want to put in your body... You can check out http://www.milksucks.com/index2.asp It's one of many websites focused on providing hard facts about milk!

What? Dairy (yes, that means milk) HAS been linked to diabetes in MANY studies.

What type of milk is used in tapioca milk teas?
IMG_0022

I've asked many different tapioca milk cafe's/shops what type of milk they use in their drinks and haven't been able to get a clear answer. Does anybody know what is used? Non-fat powdered milk? Regular Vitamin D milk? Or non-dairy creamer?

Regular milk though it is sweetened with suagr Syrup, here is a recipe * 3 ounces tapioca pearls
* sugar syrup
* 1 cup brewed tea (Chinese black tea or lychee tea is good)
* 1 cup milk (or to taste)
* Ice cubes
* Tapioca Pearls
* 1 part tapioca pearls
* 4 parts (or more) water
* Sugar Syrup
* 2 parts white sugar
* 1 part brown sugar
* 3 parts water

PREPARATION:
Prepare the sugar syrup for the tapioca pearls (see below).[

Prepare the tapioca pearls (see below)

Place the tapioca pearls in the large glass jar

Allow the tea to cool to room temperature. Add the milk.

Remember the wild bar scenes in the Tom Cruise film Cocktail? Add the sugar syrup, milk and tea mix, and the ice cubes to a cocktail shaker and shake well. (Alternately you can process them in a blender, but that's not nearly as much fun!)

Pour the shaken mixture into the glass with the tapioca pearls.Serve with a thick straw.

To make the tapioca pearls: When making the tapioca pearls, which are the chief ingredient in Asian bubble teas, please note that the pearls expand considerably when cooked.

Please ensure that you use a large pot. (As a rule, the more pearls cooked, the more water should be used: that is, the water to pearl ratio must be higher. For 3kgs of pearls, we recommend using as much as 6 times as much water).

Boil the water. Add the pearls to the boiling water and boil for 30 minutes. Stir occasionally to make sure the pearls are not sticking to each other or to the pot. Turn off heat and let the pearls steep in the water for another 30 minutes with the lid of the cooking pot on.

Drain the tapioca pearls and rinse with cold water to cool them down. Place them in sugar syrup (sugar and water solution - see below). Make sure that the pearls are covered. Stir the pearls well. The pearls are now ready to enjoy.

To make the sugar syrup: in a saucepan, bring the water to boil. Add the sugars. Reduce heat and heat until the sugar crystals are dissolved. Remove from heat. Note: Please feel free to experiment with the ratio of white sugar to brown sugar, and the ratio of the sugar to water.

Can I use sweetened condensed milk to replace a cup of sweet milk?
IMG_0027

I have a recipe for cubed steak and it calls for 1 cup of sweet milk, all I have is 2% milk and 1 can of sweet condensed milk.

I read that sweet milk was really whole milk......
Any ideas on which would be best?

Sweet milk is just regular milk, as apposed to butter milk. It is an old term that not many people use any more. Your 2% will work just fine.

What are milk solids and where do you buy them?
IMG_0028

I have a gelato recipe that calls for 'milk solids'. Is this the same as powdered milk ?
Where do you buy these (if they are not the same as powdered milk)?
What would be an approriate substitute if I can't find milk solids.

Solunas -- milk solids are the same as powered milk . they use skimed milk and dehydrate it to the product that we know as powered milk the liquid is taken out leaving the solids. jim b
