How did Spielberg film the snake pit scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark? Did they actually walk through the snakes (on top of them), or did they have a sort of path for the actors and stunt doubles to walk on, so they did not step on top of them? Also, were these actually venomous snakes, or were they non-venomous? I know they are actually live snakes, but wondered how they shot the scene without people being bitten and how they got through the snakes without smashing them.

OK so I went to wal mart today and saw raiders of the lost ark on sale. I wanted to buy it and I saw the PG rating on it. He wants to watch it on his birthday alone with his friends. He is 8 years old and the youngest of my family. I know at the end people melt and a guy's face explode. Will it be tooo scarey for him?
no! i'm a girl, and i watched all of the indiana jones movies when i was littler than that. i loved them! and i'm so glad my dad let me watch them.
he'll love it i'm sure...but you kinda have a point, the people melting and face exploding..i don't think he'll be scared, it's not gory or anything. go with your gut instinct, good luck.

Yes, it is a very good movie and the first in the Indiana Jones Trilogy (soon to be a quadrilogy). Harrison Ford is the star, along with Karen Allen and John Rhys-Davies. It is an action/adventure movie. There is some swearing and of course there is violence (good guy vs. Nazi's). I don't recall any nudity, however. It is definately worth buying on DVD.
I would suggest renting it first (and perhaps the other two as well: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom & Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade).
They are a nod back to the old serial actioners, where the good guy goes through impossible situations and comes out without a hair out of place. The difference is, things don't always go so well for Indy, and he gets more than his fair share of bumps, bruises and cuts. But he is the good guy so...
As to the awards, I don't remember if it did or not. I believe it was up for a few. Back then, the Academy quite oftened snubbed Mr. Spielberg, so it's possible that there were nominations, but no wins.
During Indiana Jones' excavation of the Ark of the Covenant in the Egyptian desert, his work force sing a work song; what is it called?
What is the Egyptian work song that accompanies the excavation of the site of the Ark. I think it is a traditional piece, not composed by John Williams; it is not on the soundtrack.
